The Rationale Behind the Picture

The Taal Basilica is one of the oldest churches in the country and located at one of the oldest towns in the Philippines.  The basilica is located at Taal, Batangas, which was one of the most prosperous municipalities during the Spanish period due to its robust coffee business.  Constructed by Augustinian friars in the late 16th century, the church is dedicated to St. Martin of Tours and is the shrine of Our Lady of Caysasay.  Amidst earthquakes, storms, and other natural calamities that hit the country, Taal Basilican remains strong and formidable against the passing of time.  And this is what the Catholic Church should always be:  unfazed and unchanged.   And our beliefs and traditions should be able to reflect this.
